in-a-moon : why would I use micropayments?

Micropayments are good.

We solve the interface problem for micropayments: namely no one wants to say "Yes, I'll pay a tenth of a cent for that" every two minutes.

We actually like the way the web currently works. You can find anything, and everything. It's great. Can you imagine living without a web browser?

There's just one problem — we're afraid there is not a sustainable economic incentive to content producers large and small. We think the commercial net is missing a piece of infrastructure which led us to create this service.

what's wrong with the current model?

We could go through each of the current revenue sources (banner/context ads, subscriptions...), but in short, most all of the business models on the net today are flawed in that they don't have a way to mix free, unfettered access to content with sustainable revenue generation. Content producers have gotten ourselves into the awkward position of not being able to ask people for money because what we're offering is really not worth the cost of the transaction—both in terms of the development cost and time for consumers to fill out a form.

The net today is stuck. We offer this micropayment service as a way of unsticking it.

why do I want enable my content for in-a-moon?

  • You can change very little of your existing site, and begin the transition into a pay-for-content web. It works alongside current revenue sources.
  • It's as easy as copy-and-paste to start generating revenue for your existing content—even if you provide completely unrestricted, "free", access to all of your content.
  • Create enhanced content levels that reward your work, but do not turn off users with "what, I have to pay again" syndrome.
  • You want your favorite content to stay around. (Producer's are consumers too!)

why would I sign up to use this service?

  • To get access to enhanced content. (Someone made you. Maybe your favorite website requires an in-a-moon membership to see the latest content.)
  • Because you don't want your favorite content to go away for lack of revenue. Each time you visit a site, you're giving the website a micropayment to support their operations.
  • Because everyone produces content, and you might as well make money off of your work.
  • You never pay more per month than your budget. You fix your budget. We distribute it for you.
